Volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Training for Community Members

Group Of Children Having Fun In Playground TogetherThank you for your interest in becoming a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteer!   Training will be on February 21 and 23, 2017, from 4  to 7 p.m., at the Kids’ Voice office.   Both sessions are required.  All materials, training by Kids’ Voice attorneys, and dinner will be provided.  Kid’s Voice office is located at: 9150 Harrison Park Court-C, Indianapolis, IN 46216.

Serving as a Volunteer Guardian ad Litem

Kids’ Voice of Indiana is a nonprofit organization, offering the opportunity to serve as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) for children in cases of custody, visitation, and contested guardianship.

As a GAL volunteer you will:

  1. Be assigned by Kids’ Voice to represent the best interests of child.
  2. Fulfill the legal role of researching, examining, advocating, facilitating and monitoring for the child.
  3. Conduct in-home visits with the child, parents and other significant adult
  4. Interview the child’s teacher, babysitter, therapist and physician.
  5. Prepare a written report to be filed with the Court.
  6. Testify and/or participate in settlement of the case.

To prepare for your role:
1. Complete an application and release of information forms – available here
2. Receive a training manual and participate in training sessions.
3. Receive supervision and legal representation by an experienced Indiana lawyer.
